Design
This weeks free crochet pattern is the Brielle Shawl. The Brielle shawl is a very easy pattern and is perfect for beginners, it is worked in two sections, the first section is worked in just double crochet increasing down one side of the row and then the second section is worked in chains and double crochet or a lot of crocheters know it more as filet crochet. You can find some more filet crochet patterns here.

The Brielle shawl has been carefully designed using a soft merino wool to give it a light feel but also covers you up for cooler evenings. This yarn is superwash yarn and that type of yarn tends to stretch which for some patterns might not be a good thing but for this one it is perfect as it really stretches out the chain and double crochet stitches which we want as it gives the shawl more of a ‘drapey look’. This is a great piece for any wardrobe.
This pattern has been written for DK weight yarn but it is that versatile that it can be done using any weight yarn.
This pattern is a simple and easy to follow crochet pattern which creates beautiful results with it’s two sections.
Happy crocheting!!
Yarn:
The wool i used for this pattern is King Cole Luxury Merino DK it is made from 100% Merino wool and it is lovely and soft and comes in a great range of colors. This is a superwash yarn and the reason why i chose a superwash is because it stretches and this really opens up the chain spaces and makes it really light and airy. If you are having trouble getting hold of this beautiful yarn i would recommend using another superwash yarn like this Cascade 220 DK.
You will need 918 yards for this crochet shawl.
- 50 grams
- 153 yards/140 meters
- 100% Merino Wool
- Machine Washable

Yarn Substitutions:
You can easily substitute the yarn i used for a more of a suitable one for you. Just remember acrylic yarn doesn’t wet block as well as wool but you could always carefully steam block your shawl.
