Today’s free crochet shawl pattern is the Fantasia Shawl. There is no increasing or decreasing in this crochet pattern as it’s created with a simple rectangle shape! I used the beautiful Cascade 220 for this shawl pattern. Check out the free pattern below, or you can purchase the ad free printable from my Etsy shop HERE!

The stitches for this shawl pattern were so nice to work up, many of you know i am a big fan of shell stitches and then combine that with some mesh stitches (which are really just chains) you then get a whole lot of goodness and look how it turned out!
As i mentioned earlier there is no shaping with this crochet shawl pattern as it is a rectangle shape which is worked top down as long as you know sc, dc and ch stitch you are good to go.

Now i have a little confession on row 2 the first and last stitches are treble crochet stitches, if i was to work this rectangle shawl again i think i would have just used dc stitches, the pattern still works out perfectly great but i am not the biggest fan of working trebles if i’m really honest so personal opinion.
The Fantasia Shawl is a beginner + pattern just because of the mesh stitches, you need to know what stitches you are looking for so as long as you know the basics and completely aware of what these stitches look like when looking out for them you will be able to work it up completely fine!
Yarn:
For this shawl pattern i used Cascade 220 which has an AMAZING amount of different shades which i absolutely love when choosing yarn for projects. It is made with 100% highland Peruvian wool and is perfect for shawl projects as it blocks so nicely as it really opens up the stitch definition and that is exactly what you want when blocking a shawl.
This yarn is classed as more of a high end yarn but when you are making a shawl that you want to last for years then you should go for a yarn that will stand the test of time and i really feel this yarn is perfect for that. You will need 880 yards for your shawl.
- 100 grams
- 220 yards /200 meters

Yarn Substitutions:
You can easily substitute the yarn i used for a more of an affordable yarn or one that is machine washable. Just remember acrylic yarn doesn’t wet block as well as wool but you could always carefully steam block your shawl.

Repeat rows 2-3 until shawl measures 15 inches approx finishing on row 2.
Fasten off and weave in ends. Move on to blocking.
Notes:
If you would like your shawl longer, carry on repeating row 2-3 but please note you will need more yarn to do this.
Blocking:
When blocking my shawls i really like to stretch my shawls out, don’t be afraid to really pull those stitches and pin! It might seem scary at first but it really opens up all those lovely stitches that you worked hard on and really shows them off.
Soak finished shawl for 20 minutes in cool water and squeeze excess water out gently. Do not twist. Lay damp shawl on blocking boards and stretch to 79.5 inch width x 21 inch height (or to your desired width and height) use blocking pins to hold in place. Let your shawl dry completely before unpinning.
