Design

The Honest Shawl features filet crochet but this shawl is a beginner friendly crochet pattern and it only involves 2 rows of filet crochet in the pattern repeat and then the other 2 rows are made up of double crochet stitches so it can be easily remembered and made up in no time. As the Honest Shawl is a filet crochet shawl it only uses double crochet and chain stitches which is so easy to do and at the end of it you will make this beautiful shawl

This Honest Shawl pattern is made in one size but in the paid pattern I have included the multiples so you can make it in any size that you would prefer and with your ideal yarn.

Here are some common questions about this pattern to help you along with making this Shawl:

What Shape Is This Shawl?

This shawl is rectangle shape working in rows.

What Size Is The Shawl?

The size of this shawl in the free pattern is 17 x 61 inches approx – This is before the shawl is blocked – Multiples are included in the paid pattern.

Is A Chart Available For This Pattern?

No. Only written instructions, line by line.

Do I Need To Block My Shawl?

Yes! It will make your shawl lay completely flat and fix any uneven stitches along the side edges. It will also open up the stitches.

What Yarn Did You Use?

For this shawl pattern i used Cascade 220 which has an AMAZING amount of different shades which i absolutely love when choosing yarn for projects. It is made with 100% highland Peruvian wool and is perfect for shawl projects as it blocks so nicely as it really opens up the stitch definition and that is exactly what you want when blocking a shawl.

This yarn is classed as more of a high end yarn but when you are making a shawl that you want to last for years then you should go for a yarn that will stand the test of time and i really feel this yarn is perfect for that.

  • 100 grams
  • 220 yards /200 meters
  • 100% wool
  • This yarn is hand wash only / Cascade 220 superwash is machine washable

Yarn Substitutions

You can easily substitute the yarn i used for a more of an affordable yarn or one that is machine washable. Just remember acrylic yarn doesn’t wet block as well as wool but you could always carefully steam block your shawl.

Blocking:

Notes:

  • I would advise blocking your shawl to sort out any unevenness and for it to lay completely flat
  • This shawl will stretch a little bit in width and length

Soak the finished shawl for 20 minutes in cool water and squeeze excess water out gently. Do not twist. Lay damp shawl on blocking boards and block using blocking pins to hold in place and to neaten out any uneven edges. Let your shawl dry completely before unpinning.
