Supplies You Will Need:

Stitches Used:

  • Ch – Chain
  • Dc – Double Crochet
  • Puff St – Puff Stitch
  • Sts – Stitches
  • Beg – Beginning

Stitch Breakdown:

Puff St – Puff Stitch

  • Yarn over, insert your hook into the indicated stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop. (You will have 3 loops on your hook.)
  • Yarn over, insert your hook into the same stitch, and pull up a loop. (5 loops on your hook.)
  • Yarn over, insert your hook into the same stitch, and pull up a loop. (7 loops on your hook.)
  • Yarn over, insert your hook into the same stitch, and pull up a loop. (9 loops on your hook.)
  • Yarn over and pull through all 9 loops on your hook.

3.5 inches approx after blocking

This pattern is written using American standard crochet terminology.

Notes:

  • This crochet pattern is worked in the round.
  • Repeat what is in between the stars from * to * until the end of the round.
  • If you have a ** in your row you need to follow the pattern from * to * all the way around and then when you get near the end of the round you will finish your last repeat at ** because you can no longer complete the entire repeat, then follow what it says to do to complete the round.
  • Read each row carefully before starting the round.

R1. Make a magic ring, (Alternatively, you can ch 4, join with a slip stitch to make a ring) Ch2 (counts as 1dc) Work 11dc into the ring, join with a slip stitch in to the beginning dc, fasten off 

R2. Join new yarn in any dc, Ch4 (counts as 1dc, ch2) Work (1dc, ch2) in each dc around, join with a slip stitch to beg ch2 space, fasten off 

R3. Join new yarn in any ch2 space, Ch1 (does not count as a stitch) Work (puff stitch, ch2, puff stitch, ch2) in first ch2 space, skip next dc (puff stitch in next ch2 space, ch2, skip next dc) – Repeat x1 more time * Work (puff stitch, ch2, puff stitch, ch2) in next dc, skip next dc (puff stitch in next ch2 space, ch2, skip next dc) – Repeat x1 more time * Repeat from * to * all the way around, join with a slip stitch to the top of the first puff stitch, slip stitch into next ch2 space, fasten off

R4. Join new yarn in same ch2 space you just slip stitched into, Ch2 (counts as 1dc) Work (2dc, ch2, 3dc) in first ch2 space (skip next puff stitch, 3dc in next ch2 space) – Repeat x2 more times, skip next puff stitch * Work (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in next ch2 space (skip next puff stitch, 3dc in next ch2 space) – Repeat x2 more times, skip next puff stitch * Repeat from * to * all the way around, join with a slip stitch to beg dc, slip stitch into next ch2 space, fasten off 

Weave in all ends. Move on to blocking and joining.

BLOCK

Your granny square can look uneven and may not lay completely flat which is perfectly normal so it is best to block your granny square.
