Design
This chunky floor basket is such a simple and fun crochet project and it is such a handy one too to keep all of your odd yarn bits in like i have, this basket is so sturdy so don’t be afraid that it will just collapse once you put all your stuff in. The only issue is you may want to make more of these to keep everything in ha ha!
Now this design is crocheted in the round without joining so it is seamless so you don’t see any joining of stitches which means you need to know where the start of your first round actually starts so i would suggest using stitch markers, otherwise you may get in a whole lot of a mess.

This crochet basket is made out of recycled t-shirt yarn, have you ever crocheted with t-shirt yarn before? If you haven’t then be prepared to give your arms a workout! Because of the thickness of the yarn (super thick) and a massive crochet hook you end up using all of your arm muscles to help guide the stitches through instead of just your hands and wrists.
For this project i only used two yarn bobbins and this came out to a great size of 14 inch diameter which is quite a large floor basket and then i crocheted until it measured about 10.5 inches, if you wanted it taller then you would definitely need more yarn to do this.
Yarn:
For this crochet pattern as i mentioned above i used recycled t-shirt yarn from Paintbox Yarns from the LoveCrafts website which is unused and left over jersey fabric from European mills. Instead of them throwing it away and wasting it, it has been given a new lease of life as t-shirt yarn – How fantastic is that!
This type of yarn is great for more crochet home decor and accessories because of the thickness and it comes in some lovely color blends. You will need 240 yards for your basket.
- 800 grams
- 120 yards / 110 meters
- 90% Cotton 10% Synthetic
- This recycled yarn is hand wash only

Yarn Substitutions:
The t-shirt yarn i used is very very thick! So if you are substituting yarn for another make sure you check your gauge matches up for this pattern below and adjust your crochet hook accordingly or you can double up on your t-shirt yarn that you have chosen and check your gauge again to match mine for this pattern – if you do this you will need more yarn than what the pattern calls for.
