Design

This crochet asymmetrical shawl is a very simple and delicate shawl with chain stitches set off as the piece increases into an asymmetric design. This was such a great shawl to work up and quite easy when you get into it which is great if you want to watch you TV programs.

This shawl is so versatile that it can be worked in any yarn but i would recommend using a superwash yarn so it can stretch which will open the shawl stitches up, i used King Cole Luxury Merino DK yarn which worked really nicely. The other yarn i would recommend using is Cascade 220 DK which is another superwash yarn.

close up of the ada shawl pattern

This crochet asymmetrical shawl is worked flat starting at the tip working towards the opposite side of the triangle which gives this shawl an asymmetric shape which has been created by increasing on one side. This is such a perfect project for beginners and for the more advanced crocheter and works up really quickly.

Hope you enjoy this beautiful design. Happy crocheting!

Yarn:

The wool i used for this pattern is King Cole Luxury Merino DK it is made from 100% Merino wool and it is lovely and soft and comes in a great range of colors. This is a superwash yarn and the reason why i chose a superwash is because it stretches and this really opens up the chain spaces and makes it really light and airy. If you are having trouble getting hold of this beautiful yarn i would recommend using another superwash yarn like this Cascade 220 DK.

You will need 1071 yards for this crochet shawl.

  • 50 grams
  • 153 yards/140 meters
  • 100% Merino Wool
  • Machine Washable

Yarn Substitutions:

You can easily substitute the yarn i used for a more of a suitable one for you. Just remember acrylic yarn doesn’t wet block as well as wool but you could always carefully steam block your shawl.

Pattern Notes:

You will start to notice a repeating pattern so if you are an advanced crocheter for all odd rows the first number in bold will increase by one and the second number in bold will increase by two and for each even row repeat row 4.

Repeat this sequence until row 120 where you will finish on a row 4 and for row 121 repeat row 4 again.

If you are not as advanced yet in your crocheting then i have written every single row out until row 121 below.

For advanced crocheters move on to ‘blocking’.

Fasten off and weave in ends – Move on to blocking.

Notes:

If you would like your shawl bigger, carry on repeating the pattern notes section but please note you will need more yarn to do this and making sure to finish on row 4 and adding an extra row 4 at the end.

Blocking:

Soak finished shawl for 20 minutes in cool water and squeeze excess water out gently. Do not twist. Lay damp shawl on blocking boards and stretch to 62 inch wingspan (or to your desired length) use blocking pins to hold in place. Let your shawl dry completely before unpinning.
