The Ariana shawl is a top down crochet shawl meaning that you chain a long chain to begin with which will be the top of your shawl and you crochet row by row across the width of the shawl and work the whole pattern downwards like that which will give you a lovely rectangle shawl, it is as easy as that so you don’t have to worry about any increasing and decreasing which can get complicated sometimes.

This isn’t a difficult crochet pattern but i would say it is more suitable for an advanced beginner as you have a four row repeat which would be a little harder to remember all the rows, although not impossible! Once you get in to the pattern it is easy to follow. When blocking the shawl i made sure to really stretch the last row out and pin as i really wanted it to be lacy and this definitely achieved what i was going for.

I look forward to seeing all your shawls!

Yarn:

For this shawl pattern i used Cascade 220 which has an AMAZING amount of different shades which i absolutely love when choosing yarn for projects. It is made with 100% highland Peruvian wool and is perfect for shawl projects as it blocks so nicely as it really opens up the stitch definition.

Fasten off and weave in ends. Move on to blocking.

Notes:

If you would like your shawl longer, carry on repeating rows 3-6 but please note you will need more yarn to do this.

Blocking:

Soak finished shawl for 20 minutes in cool water and squeeze excess water out gently. Do not twist. Lay damp shawl on blocking boards and stretch to 68 inch width x 18 inch height (or to your desired width and height) use blocking pins to hold in place. Let your shawl dry completely before unpinning.
