Design
When looking for a stitch for my next shawl i was going with something a little more plainer in mind, i just find sometimes a really plain stitch like the one i used for this pattern can still look really beautiful without all the fanciness.
This stitch pattern has vertical stripes using double crochet stitches with chain spaces in between and i think it gives it more of an elegant kind of feel.

When i started working this rectangle shawl it was such an easy one to get into where there wasn’t a lot of thinking involved but the results still came out beautiful and was worked up quickly.
I also added an extra last row to this shawl pattern but you could easily just leave it on row 2 if you liked, i just felt it needed a little something at the end. If you are an intermediate crocheter you can easily add your own last row to suit you.
The Darla Shawl is a beginner friendly pattern and only uses the double crochet stitches and chain stitches which when you are learning to crochet these will be some of the very first stitches you learn!
This rectangle Shawl only comes in one size width ways like most shawl patterns which for this one is a 71.5 inch width which is a great length for most and because this shawl is worked top down you can easily adjust the length.
Yarn:
For this shawl pattern i used Cascade 220 which has an AMAZING amount of different shades which i absolutely love when choosing yarn for projects. It is made with 100% highland Peruvian wool and is perfect for shawl projects as it blocks so nicely as it really opens up the stitch definition and that is exactly what you want when blocking a shawl.
This yarn is classed as more of a high end yarn but when you are making a shawl that you want to last for years then you should go for a yarn that will stand the test of time and i really feel this yarn is perfect for that. You will need 880 yards for your shawl.
- 100 grams

Yarn Substitutions:
You can easily substitute the yarn i used for a more of an affordable yarn or one that is machine washable. Just remember acrylic yarn doesn’t wet block as well as wool but you could always carefully steam block your shawl.
