Design

Today’s free crochet pattern is the Spirit Hexagon Blanket Pattern, with a six sided motif, it forms a charming geometric shape that adds a touch of whimsy to any project. The hexagon motif can be worked in a single color or with a mix of vibrant hues, it is then joined together to make an absolutely beautiful blanket, this is perfect for an advanced beginner crocheter.

The Spirit Hexagon Blanket Pattern motif starts off with a small circle, it opens up a bit with ch2 spaces and then it becomes a solid hexagon shape but then opens up and finishes into a granny hexagon.

Weave in all ends.

Joining:

  • Join the hexagons to each other using the mattress stitch
  • There will be 6 hexagons on the top row, 5 hexagons on the second row, 6 hexagons for third row and so on

Blocking:

After your blanket is completely finished I would highly advise blocking, this will straighten out any unevenness, it will make your blanket lay completely flat as it softens the yarn.

If you are using natural fiber yarn Soak the finished blanket for 20 minutes in cool water and squeeze excess water out gently. Do not twist. Lay damp blanket on blocking boards and use blocking pins to hold in place. Let your blanket dry completely before unpinning.

If you are using synthetic yarn – You can steam block either with a hand steamer or the steam function on your iron by holding the steamer above your blanket for a couple of seconds making sure you don’t touch the yarn otherwise it will burn. Gently pat your blanket whilst steaming being careful not to burn yourself.
