Today’s free crochet pattern is this Kids Simple Velvet Headband. My daughter had been asking for a while to make her something and i had the perfect yarn to use! Ages ago i purchased Bernat Velvet and i tried making a blanket with it and you know what i absolutely hated it, i didn’t even get round to finishing it so from that i had yarn leftover and thought why not make a headband with it which seems fitting now it’s Winter time.

I will be completely honest with you even though i absolutely love the feel of Bernat Velvet as it’s so silky smooth i really disliked making a large item using this yarn when i tried making the blanket, the stitches are so god damn hard to see! I am a quick crocheter and i like to get things done but this just wasn’t happening for me and when i kept missing stitches it was driving me mad so i gave up on that one – It just wasn’t working out and that’s okay because i got to use it for something else.

Using Bernat Velvet for a small crochet project was perfect as there wasn’t many stitches that i had to keep track of and it worked up super quick, literally less than an hour to do from start to finish, the Kids Simple Velvet Headband uses a double crochet stitch throughout the pattern to make it nice and simple but looks lovely on!

Yarn:

For this crochet pattern i used Bernat Velvet which is so soft to use, it literally glides through your fingers like a dream, only downside is that the stitches are quite hard to see with velvet yarn so try and keep track of them but this is perfect for small crochet projects like this one where you don’t have many stitches to work up. You will need 44 yards for this project.

  • 300 grams
  • 314 yards /288 meters
  • 100% polyester
  • This yarn is hand wash only

Yarn Substitutions:

You can easily substitute the yarn i used for another velvet yarn or a plain yarn, just remember if you substitute it for a completely different yarn that isn’t velvet it won’t look the same and the sizing will be different.
